In case you missed it, Brand New Congress was recently featured in an article by Elvina Nawaguna of Business Insider about our movement to elect a new generation of civil rights leaders – and the obstacles we face when challenging the incumbent protection machine.

Our own Adrienne Bell was interviewed for this piece to share her thoughts as a former candidate who now works to help elect young Black and Latino activists to lead the fight for a new civil rights era.

In the few short years we’ve been around, Brand New Congress has helped elect some of the most consequential new leaders of our generation – people like Cori Bush and AOC, whom we recruited to run for office, as well as Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.

This November we can DOUBLE the progress we’ve made by electing the BNC slate. We’ve got bold progressives running to fill open seats, flip red seats, and oust entrenched, corporate incumbents.

Power concedes nothing without demand. The systems we have to challenge to stop the climate crisis, end racial injustice, radically reform our criminal legal system, and invest in the prosperity of working people will not give up their power easily.

But we ARE making progress. The gains we’ve made this year alone in Congress would never have been possible without our movement making clear, forceful demands – and sending the leaders we need to Washington to get the job done.
