Xiante Dahabi
Xiante is an alumnus of NHCEH's Granite Leaders homeless advocate program and is currently working on earning a college degree in somatic psychology. She has dealt with episodes of homelessness over many years before finally finding permanent supportive housing in Manchester. Xiante joined our board earlier this year, using her perspective on homelessness to better direct our research and advocacy efforts.
She believes that people need to know what life is like for individuals experiencing homelessness in order to understand how best to address the issue. Xiante would like to challenge everyone to put themselves in the shoes of someone who is homeless. Visit a soup kitchen or a shelter. Spend a night outside in clothes that don't keep you completely warm and dry. Homelessness can occur for a variety of reasons, but it is easy to assume people are homeless because they choose to be. A more open mind among policy makers and the general public may lead to more support and funds dedicated to solving homelessness. Thank you, Xiante, for your service on the NHCEH Board of Directors and for everything you do to make New Hampshire a better place to live for all our citizens.
