Dear John, September is National Kinship Care Month. Did you know that across the nation, 4% of all kids — more than 2.6 million children — are in kinship care? In this arrangement, relatives raise kids when their parents cannot care for them. Kinship care is special in my heart as my husband, and I provided this care for our wonderful grandchildren. Was it always easy? No. But good things in life are not easy. They require care and attention and are so worth it. Even as September comes to a close, consider where you may fall in the spectrum of care for vulnerable children and reach out to offer support or receive support. Life’s journey is easier when we walk the road together. Your friend, Robyn Chambers What is Kinship Care?
