News from Representative Allred

Dear John,

Since the radical decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and effectively repeal the right to an abortion, Texas women have been severely impacted. Texas passed one of the strictest abortion bans in the country and because of our high population of women veterans, so many women who answered the call to serve our country are not able to get the care they need.

But, thanks to a new VA rule, women veterans are now able to access abortion services through the VA, in situations of rape or incest, or if the life or health of the woman is at risk.

Dallas Navy veteran Sydney Chipman shares her story with Spectrum about how having an abortion saved her life when she was sexually assaulted. Watch here.

In the face of significant attacks on women’s reproductive freedom, I commend the VA for standing up for our veterans, like Sydney Chipman, a Dallas Navy veteran who received a life-saving abortion after she was sexually assaulted. Two weeks ago, I was able to ask VA officials about the decision to provide abortions at a Veterans Affairs hearing and the impact it will have on women veterans living in Texas.

I refuse to give up hope and allow this backsliding on fundamental human rights to stand unchallenged. As your Representative, I will always support legislation that protects a woman's right to reproductive freedom and safety.

My office is here to be a resource for you. We can help to answer your questions and connect you to the resources you need. Please do not hesitate to give us a call (972) 972-7949 or visit my website here.

It’s an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
