The Big Tree Giveaway
Big tree giveaway
Following on from the success of our first Big Tree Giveaway last year we are running the initiative again this year. Next month we will be giving away one thousand free trees as part of our pledge to plant 50,000 trees by 2023.
City residents can register for a free native tree sapling, giving you a chance to plant a tree in your garden and play your part in the council?s pledge to make the city greener as part of its ambitious target to become the first carbon neutral city in the UK by 2028. ?
In 2021, Nottingham City Council joined in partnership with the National Trust to be part of the?Blossom Together [ [link removed] ]?project by planting flowering cherry trees at Lenton Recreation Ground and St Mary?s Rest Garden. These trees give residents and visitors?a space for hope and reflection as we move forward from the pandemic and the chance to celebrate the beauty of spring year after year.
To continue to celebrate this relationship, 1,000 Wild Cherry ("Prunus avium") are being given away so that residents can blossom together with the council in the comfort of their garden. You can register for your free wild cherry sapling via?Eventbrite [ [link removed] ]?and then collect from the Woodthorpe Park Plant Shop between the 13th?and 16th?October 2022.

Nottingham trials UK?s first wireless electric taxis on its ambitious journey to carbon neutrality
Wireless charging taxi station street
This week, Nottingham became the first place in the UK where wirelessly-charged taxis are operating. A specially upgraded taxi rank near Nottingham Station allows nine adapted electric hackney cabs to charge wirelessly, which means cabbies don?t have to leave their vehicles, trail cables anywhere or miss out on possible fares while charging their vehicles.
This is a project that?s been funded by the Government?s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, and the council and its project partners will closely monitor the trial to share learnings with the Government to help shape future regulations and delivery of wireless charging projects.
It?s another fantastic example of Nottingham being at the forefront of transport innovation, as we lead the country to become carbon neutral by 2028. As more cabbies choose electric vehicles, it will make a big difference in local air quality ? which is already improving, with a fall in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 57.7% per person in the last 17 years [ [link removed] ].

Over the last week a small village has sprung up on the Forest Recreation Ground with over 250 rides and stalls being set up. After two years of cancellations due to the pandemic it was great to see the much loved Goose Fair opening up this afternoon ? complete with traditional Goose Fair weather.
Goose Fair is visited by thousands of people and for many is a highlight of the year. I?d really like to hear your thoughts on the fair; what it means to you and your family and hear your Goose Fair memories. You can get in touch with me here
