Nine years ago, I filibustered for 13 hours in the Texas State Senate to stop an anti-abortion bill (you probably remember the pink sneakers). It is one of my proudest moments – but what happened that day isn't really about me. It is about the people who showed up to the Texas Capitol to join me: Their voices, their organizing, and their stomping feet ultimately stopped the vote on that anti-abortion bill. Not me – us. 

That grassroots power is what I'm asking you to channel into electing Trudy Busch Valentine to the U.S. Senate (you can make a donation here), because abortion access is under attack in America – and we must fight back. Allow me just a moment to explain:

Now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, far-right state legislators all over the country are passing increasingly extreme abortion bans – including in Trudy's home state of Missouri, and my home state of Texas. Meanwhile, the GOP's henchmen in the Senate are doing all that they can to pass a nationwide ban on abortion.

Every single American deserves the freedom to choose what happens to their own bodies – especially when that choice impacts our health, the jobs we have, the education we can attain, and the life we lead. But instead, with their latest legislation, people like Eric Schmitt and Greg Abbott are making that decision for us.

It's impossible to put into words the grief, pain, and anger that I feel watching these extremists turn back the clock on our hard-fought reproductive freedom. But this fight isn't over until we say it is – and I don't know about you, but I'm not giving up. 

That's why I'm emailing you today: Trudy is the leader that Missouri needs right now. She's a nurse, a mom, and a fierce advocate for our reproductive rights. In the Senate, she will proudly be one of the critical votes we need to finally codify abortion access. But first, she has to win in November.

Trudy and I both know that we can't sit this one out – and we need you not to sit it out either.
