Dear John,

You can contribute to building a healthier world by making a regular donation and joining our Health Poverty Action Community. We're connecting people globally to tackle the causes of poor health and poverty.

One example of our international, community-based approach is our work with partners across Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos to help end malaria in Southeast Asia.

For over eighteen years, we’ve collaborated with public officials, health workers and community members to address health issues, including malaria, that particularly affect border communities in the region.

Mrs. Sokoeun Leang works at a health centre in Mondulkiri province, eastern Cambodia, providing health education to members of her local community. Sokoeun has worked since she was a child, growing vegetables, foraging for forest produce and selling groceries.

She explains: “At one point I was working at a rubber plantation in the forest, and I became sick with malaria. I was referred to the health centre where I now work for treatment and, when I felt better, I started to volunteer there. Eventually, I was able to undertake training and was employed as a health worker at this centre in 2005”

Sokoeun has now worked in the community for many years, supporting and training health workers in remote areas and educating people about tuberculosis, malaria and sexual reproductive health.

Will you make a regular donation and join our Health Poverty Action Community? [[link removed]]

Sokoeun tells us: “Malaria in my area has now reduced a lot. Before Health Poverty Action was working in my village, we found it hard to reach remote areas, educate communities and test and treat people for malaria.

Now people’s awareness around malaria has increased and Health Poverty Action has helped people at risk, such as forest goers, by providing testing and treatment.

I believe that malaria will be eliminated soon because national programmes and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are working together to fight against malaria. I hope Health Poverty Action will continue to support my community to eliminate malaria.”

By making a regular donation and joining the Health Poverty Action Community, you can help local communities and healthcare workers tackle endemic diseases like malaria.

Yours sincerely,

Siaffa Bunduka
