Hey, John!
Right now Senator Joe Manchin is trying to force through a Dirty Deal in Congress that would undermine our progress on climate, and potentially take us in the wrong direction of expanding our reliance on fossil fuels — but communities are fighting back, and we have an opportunity to help them this election season.
Cities like Corpus Christi are at the heart of the proposed fossil fuel expansion — it’s right on the Gulf Coast, and oil and Liquefied Natural Gas companies are rushing to export more fossil fuels overseas. The export terminals, refineries, and pipelines in the region have polluted local communities and made the region one of the country’s top contributors to climate change.
But organizers in Corpus Christi are fighting back — and working to elect a slate of four progressive climate fighters to their City Council this November to block dirty industry and energy.
Will you sign on and help elect climate champions in the Gulf, take on fossil fuel infrastructure, and support our work towards a Green New Deal future?
With the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the national climate movement has much to celebrate - but also much work to do. Even as the bill promises to drastically reduce emissions nationwide, dirty side deals with Joe Manchin mean it may also help expedite the national permitting of new fossil fuel infrastructure in some of the most polluted areas of the country. Cities like Corpus Christi in the Gulf Coast (and much more often in Black, Brown, and low-income neighborhoods) will face more harmful fossil fuel pollution in their communities.
Cities like Corpus Christi can fight back against these projects though and have the authority to reject permitting for polluting export terminals and refineries in their backyard. We’re helping to elect city council members who’ll do just that — will you sign up to help them get elected?
In Corpus Christi, four candidates are running on a platform of environmental justice, investments in renewable energy, and a pledge to block the expansion of the fossil fuel industry. Unlike their opponents, they aren’t taking any corporate money and have been organizers, teachers, and leaders in their community.
This is what our work is all about — Lead Locally is proud to have endorsed over 50 candidates running for local office this year. We believe in the power of our grassroots community to uplift, empower, and elect local leaders fighting for a Green New Deal and putting an end to our dependence on fossil fuels.
Sign on to help elect more climate champions in the Gulf, take on the fossil fuel industry and its infrastructure, and support our work towards a more sustainable future for all.
We cannot wait any longer for action — thank you for supporting pro-climate candidates.
