A note about the Information Sessions
During the sessions, we’ll:
● Provide an overview of PEAI – what it is, why it was created, and how it works;
● Hear from those who participated in the PEAI pilot in 2021: They will tell us what they learned and how they applied their learning to develop youth-led peace projects; and
● Share what people need to know and do to bring the PEAI experience to their settings.
The Information Sessions will feature many young leaders, experts, and Rotarians:
● Natalia Baranova: Ukraine/Russia PEAI Country Project Team & District Secretary of the Rotaract Russia committee
● Romina Trujillo: Venezuela PEAI Country Project Team & Rotaract
● Stephanie Effevottu: Nigeria PEAI Country Project Team & Research Fellow/ Peacebuilding Programme Director/ Historian/Development Researcher
● Abbie Saunders: Canada PEAI Country Project Team
● Alison Sutherland: Co-Chair of PEAI & Director of the Rotary Action Group for Peace
The sessions will be moderated by Dr. Phill Gittins: Curator and Co-Chair of PEAI. Phill is the Education Director for World BEYOND War, a Rotary Peace Fellow, and a Global Peace Index Ambassador and Positive Peace Activator for the Institute for Economics and Peace.
Who are the Information Sessions for?
The sessions are for youth (18-35) interested in going through the PEAI experience. They are also for key partners and collaborators (including Rotarians) interested in providing scholarships for young people to participate in the PEAI programme and/or being trained to act as mentors for youth throughout the education and action components of the work.
A note about Peace Education and Action for Impact
Peace Education & Action for Impact (PEAI) works to connect and support new generations of peacebuilders around the world. An experiment in 21st century intergenerational, cross-cultural peacebuilding, PEAI is built around core strands of peace education and peace action, with ongoing mentorship and a developmental focus throughout the program.
PEAI was officially launched in 2021. This was the first time that young people and communities in 12 countries across four continents/regions (Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, Kenya, Nigeria, Russia, Serbia, South Sudan, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, and Venezuela) had been brought together, in one sustained initiative, to engage in a developmental process of youth-led, intergenerational and cross-cultural peacebuilding education and activism.
(Photo from the end-of-PEAI pilot celebration, where participants from the 12 country project teams shared what they learned and the impacts of their youth-led peace projects)
Now it is time to build on this work and (with your help) make the PEAI experience available to more (young) people and in more places around the world – with the goal of widening the sphere of influence and impact of youth-led, community-engaged peacebuilding efforts.
The next iteration of PEAI aims to make the programme available to another 10 countries.
