It's all about the Federal Judges
For decades, Democrats have been advancing their agenda through the courts, because
they cannot get the votes in the legislative bodies. President Trump has been getting
conservative judges confirmed by the Senate at record pace. The Democrats absolutely
NEED to slow down Republican judicial confirmations. So........
If the Senate impeachment trial includes subpoenaed Executive Branch witnesses over
whom the President asserts Executive Privilege, the impeachment trial must come
to a halt while the Privilege claim wends its way through the courts.
BUT.....
Under Senate rules, once articles of impeachment are delivered to the Senate, the
Senate may consider no other business until the trial is concluded. That means a
months-long freeze on the confirmation of conservative judges, and although the
Democrats will not remove President Trump from office, they will still have blunted
what they perceive to be his most potent partisan accomplishment during his term
of office.
