Announcing the newest members of the Claremont family   Dear Friends, We are delighted to announce the newest members of the Claremont family: the 2022 Speechwriters Fellows. This year's impressive group represents a mix of patriotic individuals from the nation's highest levels of government and academia. They will join Claremont for a weekend retreat beginning October 7 through October 10. This year’s curriculum will pay special attention to the dominant themes that continue to animate American political debate today: America’s founding principles, natural law, equality, American identity, globalism, multiculturalism, identity politics, and the administrative state--all with the aim of equipping fellows with the tools for a robust defense of the American Way of Life. During their stay, the Speechwriters Fellows will engage in a theoretical and rhetorical study of these themes under the direction of Claremont scholars and former presidential speechwriters, as well as through peer-led discussions and workshops. Please join us in welcoming this year's Speechwriters Fellows! Meet the 2022 Speechwriters Fellows Kevin Baird is the communications director for Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA). Prior to joining Congressman Griffith's office, he worked as the Legislative Director for Eagle Forum Education and Legal Defense Fund under Phyllis Schlafly. A native of western Pennsylvania, Kevin graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a bachelor's degree in History and Government and earned a master's degree in Modern History from the University of St. Andrews. Jackson Berryman is a communications aide to U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) where he is responsible for crafting social media posts, op-eds, and speeches. He has interned and worked in various roles for Senator Paul’s office since 2018. His writing has appeared in Fox News and outlets across Kentucky. Jackson is an alum of the America’s Future writing fellows program and holds a B.S. in Political Science with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky. Jeffrey Clark is a staff writer and researcher at the Media Research Center. He previously served as the primary speechwriter for the 53rd Secretary of the Interior, David Bernhardt. In that position, Jeffrey wrote remarks, drafted op-eds, and edited proclamations on behalf of the secretary and other senior level officials in the government. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 2019, he received a Fulbright scholarship and lived in South Korea for two years as an English conversation teacher, during which time he volunteered with Liberty in North Korea, the Korea Hana Foundation, and the U.S. Embassy. Sam Dubke is a speechwriter for Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), responsible for crafting the Senator’s Kentucky-focused speeches, op-eds, talking points, and other public-facing communications. He previously worked on the Glenn Youngkin for Governor and Donald J. Trump for President campaigns in communications roles. A Virginia native, he graduated from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service with a degree in International Economics. Tim C. Goeglein serves as a communications specialist and legislative aide for Representative Jim Banks of Indiana. In this role, he writes speeches, manages media and constituent outreach, prepares the congressman for votes and hearings, conducts research and more. A proud Virginian, Tim is a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem. He is a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Virginia, where he serves as an usher. Outside of work and church, he reads, bodybuilds, and maintains an interest in martial arts. Zack Jones is the speechwriter for Senator Rick Scott of Florida. Previously, he served on Rick Scott's successful campaign for U.S. Senate in 2018 and in the Executive Office of Florida Governor Rick Scott. After growing up near the beach in Jacksonville, Florida, he graduated from Florida State University with a degree in political science and international affairs. He is a Hillsdale James Madison Fellow, a Common Sense Society Carolina Fellow, and a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Zach Kahler is a communications advisor at the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means. Previously, he worked with a legal advocacy organization in Jerusalem before relocating to DC, where he worked first for AIPAC, and then with the Senate Republican Conference. He received his degree in international relations from Wheaton College in Illinois and is currently a first-year law student at the Catholic University Columbus School of Law. Emeline McClellan is an associate at Keybridge Communications, where she writes, edits, pitches, and contributes to earned media campaigns. She holds an M.Phil. in Classics from the University of Cambridge and a B.A. in Classical Languages from the University of Georgia. While at Cambridge, she served consecutively as Secretary and Communications Officer for the Cambridge University Conservative Association and interned remotely for the James Wilson Institute. Emeline is a Gates Cambridge scholar, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and a former Hertog Foundation summer scholar. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to classical music, reading, writing, cooking, and singing. Macy Mount is a writer and account executive for a fundraising firm that supports some of the nation’s largest nonprofits and political advocacy organizations. Previously, she served in the Trump administration as a speechwriter for President Donald J. Trump and as a confidential assistant for Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’ Office of Communications and Outreach. She then served as the head content developer and ghost writer for Ambassador Nikki Haley’s nonprofit, Stand for America. In 2018, Macy graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Politics from Hillsdale College. Zachary Rogers is a program manager for a non-profit focused on higher education policy. He is a John Jay fellow, a Common Sense Society Carolina fellow, and is a member of the Steamboat Institute's Emerging Leadership Council. Zachary graduated with a B.A. in History from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and an M.A. in Politics from Hillsdale College. Collin Slowey lives in Washington, D.C. and works as a speechwriter in the U.S. Senate. He also writes independently on politics, culture, and religion for publications like Public Discourse, The American Conservative, and The Dallas Morning News. Collin hails from Bryan, Texas and holds a degree from Baylor University, where he studied political science, great texts, and film. Mattheus Wagner is Director of Communications for Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of President Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social. A native of California’s San Joaquin Valley, he previously worked as an aide to his hometown congressman, Devin Nunes (R-CA). Mattheus holds an A.B. in History from Harvard College.
