What a year it’s been. It’s become clearer than ever before that President Trump and his inner circle have created the most corrupt administration in American history.
In 2019 alone, CREW took more than 200 legal actions challenging the Trump administration’s corruption, ethics abuses and secrecy. We’ve obtained documents that exposed Mar-a-Lago members calling the shots at the VA and proved President Trump was lying about the selection of his Doral resort to host the G-7, forced the historic disclosure of dark money donors after seven years and three lawsuits, launched a live tracker of President Trump’s 2,500+ conflicts, and sent more than 160 Freedom of Information Act requests to hold the administration to account. And last but not least, we’ve taken Trump and his administration to court. A lot.
It’s been a busy year, and with the ongoing impeachment and the corruption continuing unabated, 2020 will surely be even busier. When 2019 began, we hoped that a new Congress would conduct meaningful oversight of the executive branch, and begin to consider real reforms to ethics and campaign finance laws. We were gratified to see the passage of H.R. 1—a key democracy reform bill—in the House, and frustrated that it was not even taken up in the Senate for debate. We could not predict that the year would end with articles of impeachment being brought to the House floor following the revelation of the president’s shocking abuse of power and attempted bribery in Ukraine, but we were proud to lead the call for impeachment and explain why these articles are necessary. Through it all, CREW’s supporters like you have made a huge difference in our ability to respond quickly and decisively to President Trump’s seemingly bottomless corruption.
