John, we have 40 days to flip CA-40 from red to blue, so wanted to take a moment to share a few campaign updates directly from HQ. Some of this is good news, and some is a little more concerning, but it's important that you are kept in the loop:
- CA-40 is one of the *top three districts* in the country where Kevin McCarthy's super PAC has spent the most money. More than $500,000 is coming our way in the next couple of weeks.
- House Democrats added Dr. Asif Mahmood to their competitive 'Red to Blue' program. In other words, the GOP-held CA-40 is now a “must-win” for Democrats in order to retain the majority.
- Democrats are closing in on Young Kim, and our race is now just one rating away from being declared a TOSSUP. A big reason why is that Dr. Mahmood secured the largest vote share of any candidate in the June primary, and two-thirds of local voters rejected Kim.
- The latest poll out of CA-40 shows us that when voters learn more about Asif’s platform, there’s a 3-point lead over Young Kim! This race is winnable for Democrats, but only if we amplify our communication efforts to reach more voters.
We’re working hard to raise $95,000 in online contributions before tomorrow’s FEC deadline to send a message about the strength of this campaign. As it stands, we are falling a bit short and need help closing the gap.
