Tomorrow URGE is condemning the Hyde Amendment and partnering with the #DayWithoutUs campaign, an invitation for Black women to call out of work and dial into events happening in their local community in opposition to the overturning of Roe v Wade.  

The #DayWithoutUs movement falls on the 46th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, passed on September 30, 1976, which bars the use of federal Medicaid funds for abortion except when the life of the pregnant person would be at risk. The Hyde Amendment was the first successful legislative swing at abortion access following the Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade. 

As a day of protest, learning, and community building, the #DayWithoutUs campaign harnesses the energy and urgency around reproductive justice that we need to oppose the Hyde Amendment. With increasing economic disparities for Black women, alarming Black maternal mortality rates, and the overturning of Roe, now more than ever is the time to prioritize federal protections for reproductive justice and bodily autonomy for pregnant people of all tax brackets.  

URGE stands in solidarity with the #DayWithoutUs movement, and we invite you to disrupt business as usual in America by refusing to go to school and work and instead joining in a day of virtual fun, learning, and finding the best place in person to join and support local community organizing. Here’s how you can get involved: 

1. Register for the #DayWithoutUs National Teach-in happening at 12 PM ET on Friday, September 30, 2022.  
2. Locate an in-person pop-up near you and plan to attend!  
3. Check out daywithoutus.com and follow URGE on social media for additional info and details.
