Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions?

LANSING, Mich. ? Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the Automobile Theft Prevention Authority Board of Directors, Board of Barber Examiners, Board of Cosmetology, Michigan Board of Dentistry, Michigan Board of Nursing, Michigan State Waterways Commission, and the Municipal Stability Board.?

Automobile Theft Prevention Authority Board of Directors?

?

Steve Cooper, of Shelby Township, is the director of public safety for the Oak Park Police Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy's 227th session. Mr. Cooper is reappointed to represent law enforcement officials for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring July 1, 2026.??

William J. Patterson, of Lansing, is a claims coordinator for Auto Owners Insurance Company. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Western Michigan University. Mr. Patterson is reappointed to represent auto insurance providers doing business in this state for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring July 1, 2026.??

Nicole Quisenberry, of Ortonville, is currently retired after serving as a sergeant for the Oakland County Sheriff?s Department. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Child Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. Ms. Quisenberry is appointed to represent a purchaser of auto insurance in this state for a term commencing October 20, 2022, and expiring July 1, 2026. She succeeds Eugene Adamczyk whose term expired July 1, 2022.??

Daniel Pfannes, of Canton, is the deputy director of the Michigan Sheriffs? Association and a former undersheriff for the Wayne County Sheriff?s Department. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Supervision and Management from Central Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from University of Detroit. Mr. Pfannes is reappointed to represent law enforcement officials for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring July 1, 2026. The Governor has designated Mr. Pfannes to serve as chair of the Board.??

The Michigan Automobile Theft Prevention Authority assesses the scope of the problem of motor vehicle theft, analyzes various methods of combating the problem, establishes a plan for providing financial support to combat motor vehicle theft and grants funds for theft prevention teams.?

Board of Barber Examiners?

Ali H. Alhashemi, of Dearborn, is a licensed barber and the CEO of Uppercutz Barbershop. He is also a personal barber for the Detroit Lions football team, and is the founder of The Groomed Man, a line of personal hair and body care products. Mr. Alhashemi is appointed to represent a barber who has practiced for 3 years before appointment for a term commencing October 1, 2022, and expiring September 30, 2026. He succeeds Arif El-Boukari whose term expires September 30, 2022.??

Michael Parker, of Jackson, is the owner and operator of Mikey's Barber Shop and a football coach for Parkside Middle School. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Safety Studies from Siena Heights University, and he attended the Barber/Styling College of Lansing. Mr. Parker is appointed to represent a barber who has practiced for 3 years before appointment for a term commencing October 1, 2022, and expiring September 30, 2026. He succeeds Peter Delisse whose term expires September 30, 2022.??

Aries Rodgers, of Macomb, is the master barber for Barber Station Detroit LLC, and has been working in the profession for over 21 years. He received his associate?s degree in business from Macomb Community College. Mr. Rodgers is appointed to represent a barber who has practiced for 3 years before appointment for a term commencing October 1, 2022, and expiring September 30, 2025. He succeeds Jeffrey Jenson whose term expires September 30, 2021.?

Phillip D. Smith III, of Brooklyn, is a licensed barber and the owner of The Grand Barbershop, LLC. He attended the Barber/Styling College of Lansing. Mr. Smith is reappointed to represent a barber who has practiced for 3 years before appointment for a term commencing September 30, 2022, and expiring September 30, 2025.??

The Michigan Board of Barber Examiners was created to regulate the services of barbers, barber students, barber colleges, barber instructors, student instructors, and barbershops in Michigan. The statute defines a barber as a person who shaves or trims the beard of a person; cuts, trims, shampoos, relaxes, curls, permanently waves, dresses, tints, bleaches, colors, arranges, or styles the hair of a person; massages the face and head of a person; or renders personal services of a similar nature customarily done by a barber.?

Board of Cosmetology?

?

Dawnette M. Wessell, of Traverse City, is a licensed cosmetologist and the owner of Epiphany Salon & Spa. She is also an instructor and owner of the Epiphany Advanced Education Academy. Mrs. Wessell is appointed to represent a member who has been actively engaged in teaching cosmetology in this state for not less than 3 years immediately before appointment and who owns an interest in a school of cosmetology. She succeeds Scott Weaver whose term expired December 31, 2021, and she will serve for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring December 31, 2025.?

The Michigan Board of Cosmetology was created to license and regulate the practice of cosmetology in Michigan. The statute defines cosmetology as one of the following services or a combination of the following services: hair care services, skin care services, manicuring services, and electrology. The members of the cosmetology industry who are licensed by the department include public and private schools of cosmetology, beauty shops, cosmetologists, manicurists, cosmetology instructors, electrologists, estheticians, and natural hair culturists.?????

Michigan Board of Dentistry?

Sahar Farhat, of Dearborn, is a dental assistant and senior hygeinist for Parkwest Dental and the COO of Care Diagnostics. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of Detroit Mercy. Mrs. Farhat is appointed to represent dental assistants for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring June 30, 2026. She succeeds Lori Barnhart whose term expired June 30, 2022.??

Shakeel A. Niazi, DDS, of Bloomfield Hills, is the owner, president, and dentist for Shakeel A. Niazi, DDS, P.C. Dr. Niazi is also the founder and director of HUDA Charitable Volunteer Clinic and an adjunct faculty member for the University of Michigan Dental School. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Northwestern University Dental School and he holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Wayne State University. Dr. Niazi is appointed to represent a dentist with a health profession specialty certification who is a dental school faculty member, for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring June 30, 2026. Lois M. McEntyre, of Novi, is the general manager of customer success operations at Intuit. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Michigan, Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia, and Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Northwood University. The Michigan Board of Nursing was created to establish qualifications for nurse licensure, to establish standards for education and approve nurse education programs, develop, and implement criteria for assurance of continued competency, and take disciplinary action against licensees when the health, safety, and welfare of the public has been adversely affected.??

Elaine J. Isely, of Grand Rapids, is the deputy director for West Michigan Environmental Action Council. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University, and she holds a Master of Science from Grand Valley State University and Bachelor of Science in Finance from the unviersity of Maryland. Mrs. Isley is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring September 18, 2024. She succeeds Fred Sitkins who is appointed to represent persons residing north of Townline 16 in the Lower Peninsula.???

Scott E. Labonte, of Sault Ste. Marie, is the general manager in training at the Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science from Lake Superior State University. Captain Labonte is appointed to represent persons residing north of Townline 16 in the Upper Peninsula for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring September 18, 2025. He succeeds Patrick Egan whose term expired September 18, 2022.??

Candice S. Miller, of Harrison Township, is the public works commissioner for Macomb County. She has a long history of public service and previously served as the Harrison Township Supervisor, Macomb County Treasurer, Secretary of State, and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Ms. Miller is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring September 18, 2025. She succeeds Elaine Isley whose term expired September 18, 2022.?

Fred Sitkins, of Traverse City, is the executive director for Inland Seas Education Association. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Central Michigan University. Mr. Sitkins is appointed to represent persons residing north of Townline 16 in the Lower Peninsula for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring September 18, 2024. The Michigan State Waterways Commission is responsible for the acquisition, construction, and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac.?

Larry Steckelberg, of Leslie, is the division administrator of community services for the Michigan Department of Treasury. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Michigan State University and a Master of Public Administration in State Agency Management from Western Michigan University. Mr. Steckelberg is appointed to represent state officials for a term commencing September 29, 2022, and expiring May 1, 2026. He succeeds Eric Scarsone whose term expired May 1, 2022.??

The Municipal Stability Board is housed within the Michigan Department of Treasury and was created to review and update a list of best practices and strategies that will assist an underfunded local unit of government in developing a corrective action plan, and to review and vote on the approval of an action plan submitted by a local unit of government.???
