Hurricane Ian Disaster Response
Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida on Wednesday, causing severe flooding and power outages. Forecasters downgraded Ian to a tropical storm on Thursday morning but the storm is still expected to produce severe rain and wind over the next few days. Conference Disaster Response Coordinator (CDRC) Scott Burdin is monitoring the response and relief needs through the cohort of CDRCs in the United Methodist connection and will share opportunities to engage in response efforts. Congregations are asked to focus on the following mission and service efforts:

Facing the Future: Be Still as a Spiritual Practice
Online Event for Pastors Serving Cross-Racial, Cross-Cultural, and Multicultural Contexts
November 16, 12-6 pm
This event will provide pastors serving in Cross-Racial/Cross-Cultural/Multicultural ministry contexts an opportunity to fellowship and engage in hands-on learning and small group reflection. This year's virtual conference will have presenters who are licensed professional psychotherapists or counselors and ordained clergy serving in Cross-Racial/Cross-Cultural contexts. You are invited to engage in this intersectionality of self-care and spirituality with them. CRCC pastors' stress levels have increased in recent years due to the pandemic and racism we have been dealing with as a nation. In addition, the shifting denominational landscape has added additional stress. Facing the Future is an opportunity to find support among CRCC pastors.
- Standard Registration (September 1-30): $50
- Late Registration (October 1-15): $60

Being the Church with the Oppressed: Four African Perspectives Bible Study
This four session PDF downloadable small-group Biblical study (for groups meeting in-person or virtually) was created by and written from the perspectives of four Christian clergypersons from the continent of Africa. Africa, a continent, not a country, comprises of 54 different countries with 1.3 billion people (compared to the 748 million people in all of Europe), and more than 1,500 different languages spoken. African people and their communities are diverse and more complex than media stereotypes. There are Christians across the world who are doing the work of justice, transformation, healing, repentance, and repair. On every continent, in cities and villages alike, seeds are planted and are bearing the fruits of unity, ministry with the poor and marginalized, truth-telling and confronting injustice, and healing the land. This study includes stories and reflections from four of these places: Zimbabwe, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, and Nigeria. This resource from the General Commission on Religion and Race cost $20, and is available in English, French and Portuguese.
