Dear John,
Financial pressures and under-funding continue to plague the Social Security Administration (SSA) which is struggling to provide adequate customer service at field offices across the country. Budget cuts over the past 10+ years have left SSA with its lowest staffing in 25 years, while the number of beneficiaries has risen by 21%.
At a time when more than 10,000 Americans are turning 65 every day — and the number of seniors is projected to double by 2050 — it is crucial that older Americans can rely on a strong SSA to field their questions and provide help. That’s why Congress must invest in SSA which urgently needs to modernize its systems and improve customer service.
Bottom line, imposing hardships on Social Security beneficiaries to receive information or help from SSA can undermine public support for Social Security itself — which is ultimately the goal of some politicians in Washington who want to destroy this popular and effective program.
These are your earned benefits on the line — because decent service in administering Social Security is itself part of those benefits. It’s vital we fight to strengthen them, and with your supporting gift today in whatever amount you can safely afford, that is exactly what we will continue to do!
Sincerely,
|
