John,
In just a minute, I’m going to ask you to make a donation to my campaign. I hope you’ll give me a chance to explain why this request — especially today — is so important.
At the end of this month, we have a very important FEC fundraising deadline. After it hits, my team will have to report not just how much money we raised, but how many individual contributions we’ve received so far.
I’ll be honest, all eyes are on us right now. Susan Collins just officially launched her reelection campaign, so there is even more scrutiny now. Everyone — from the Maine and national media to Mitch McConnell and Republican donors — are looking to see whether our campaign has what it takes to finally beat her.
I know that the answer is yes, we do. But in order to prove it to everyone else, we need to present a really good number when this FEC report goes public. That’s why I have to ask:
I am so proud not just of all we’ve accomplished so far, but because of the way we’ve chosen to run our campaign. Our commitment to fund our work through grassroots donations instead of corporate PAC money might make our jobs a little harder, but it’s more than worth it.
All my best,
Sara
