BREAKING: Liz Truss is floundering on local consent for fracking - because there isn’t any [1].
Tell the government to rethink its plans on fracking.
John, they’re doing it again.
Despite local people saying no time after time. Despite the devastating effects on the countryside we know and love.
Ignoring the science, the economics, and common sense.
They’re trying to force fracking back. And they know we’re not going to let it happen.
All signs are pointing to the government fast-tracking fracking, giving communities little to no voice while the countryside is plastered in wells [2].
But if thousands of us speak out, we'll force the government’s hand.
We’ve partnered with 38 Degrees to ensure as many people as possible can make a stand across the country. Will you tell Liz Truss to ensure communities have the final say on fracking?
Across the country, from Lancashire to Lincolnshire, Sussex to Somerset, rural communities are now at risk to fracking and the serious consequences that come with it – groundwater contamination, earthquakes, hundreds of traffic movements on small country roads, house prices plummeting, the list goes on.
And all for what? We know – and, funnily enough, so do insiders in the industry [3] - that fracking will do nothing to solve the energy crisis [4]. It will only make things worse, plunging us into the dark ages exactly at a time we need to reduce our demand on gas through warming up our homes and investing in cheap, green renewables.
We need to tell Liz Truss now that breaking the Conservative election promise, or her own promise that fracking would only take place with local consent, is a very bad idea.
Communities have said no to fracking already. It’s their right to say what happens on their doorsteps. Can you help us ensure the PM sticks to her word and gives communities the final say on fracking?
This latest announcement is part of a coordinated government attack on the countryside, drilling and deregulating until there’s nothing left. We won’t stand for it.
If you take action today, we’ll keep you in the loop on all we’ve got planned and further actions to take part in.
Until then, thanks for everything you do,
Mark
