Dear Subscriber,
InSight Crime is pleased to announce the launch of our latest investigation: “The Jungle Patrol: Fighting Illegal Loggers on the Guatemala-Mexico Border ([link removed]) .”
[link removed]
Our team traveled hundreds of miles deep in the jungles of Guatemala and Mexico, shadowing park rangers tasked with protecting millions of hectares of forest from a shadowy criminal network hungry for precious wood.
Faced with death threats and working with minimal resources, the rangers have stood their ground against the well-funded timber mafia, which began in Mexico but that in recent years has ploughed its way into Guatemala’s pristine nature reserves.

By joining the rangers, we document how the illegal loggers extract endangered tree species with near surgical precision from some of the region’s most biodiverse forests, before transporting the illicit timber to commercial ports in Mexico and onto consumers in East Asia – making millions of dollars in the process. We invite you to explore the full investigation, available on our website ([link removed]) .
