Earlier this week, Joe was in Mississippi for a quick trip to touch base with our latest grantee and other organizers in Jackson. A few weeks before that, I was with him myself doing the same in West Virginia. These trips really got me thinking about why we do what we do at Groundwork.
Every day the humbling example set by these local activists and community leaders on the frontlines inspires us to stay focused on the mission. Every day, they prove the importance of investing in long-term, hyper-local, year-round organizing, even — especially — in places long ignored or considered out of reach by national movements.
And with each passing month I am more confident the work we’re doing at Groundwork is making an impact in the way we imagined when we first began. But we need you, team. This isn’t the time to sit on the sidelines. Groundwork has an FEC filing deadline tomorrow at midnight and we still need 129 more donors to step up so we can meet our goal.
Between now and the end of the year, Groundwork will be reviewing even more grant applications and the money we raise will determine how many we can approve. Your dollars will help programs and organizers in our partner states do the necessary work in communities usually written off by the political establishment — communities on the frontlines of the biggest battles of our time. Give now and help Groundwork continue to support these important projects and people.
With thanks,
Emily
Founded by Joe Kennedy III, Groundwork Project invests in year-round, local community organizing in places Democrats have gotten used to writing off. With a focus on Appalachia, the Deep South, and the Plains, we support local advocates and activists working to build durable political infrastructure and secure power for those historically excluded.
