Introducing Context
Today we’re excited to announce the launch of our new digital media platform, Context [[link removed]].
Powered by original reporting from the Thomson Reuters Foundation's award-winning news team, Context covers three of the most critical and interdependent issues of our time - climate change, the impact of technology on society, and the shift towards more inclusive economies.
By contextualising critical news events and exploring how they impact ordinary people, society and the environment, Context aims to inform and empower purpose-driven professionals working to tackle some of humanity's greatest challenges.
Written investigations, opinion pieces, video content and podcasts will offer in-depth analysis from our global news team and experts. Topics range from just transition and climate justice to socio-economic inequality, racial justice and gender equity, to data privacy and surveillance and the growing digital divide.
Context will also offer subscribers three newsletters [[link removed]] with exclusive commentary and unique insights aligned to its areas of focus, launching from 3rd October.

It’s less than a month until our flagship annual event, Trust Conference [[link removed]] is held in the heart of London on October 26 & 27.
We are delighted to announce the latest additions to our stellar line-up. On day one, Nobel Laureate Dmitry Muratov will deliver a keynote speech on the crucial role that media play in holding the powerful to account, and our collective responsibility to protect the freedom of media institutions around the world. Dmitry is the Editor-in-Chief of Novaya Gazeta, a pro-democracy newspaper instrumental in the reporting of human rights violations, high-level government corruption and abuses of power.
Later that day, we will be joined by our colleague Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. While visiting her family in Iran in 2016, Nazanin was unjustly detained and held hostage for six years. Nazanin’s resilience in the face of unimaginable adversity has been documented worldwide since her incarceration. She’ll be sharing insights gained from her experiences at Trust Conference.

FIND OUT MORE [[link removed]] CEO receives Italy's Order of Merit
Earlier this month, our CEO Antonio Zappulla received the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (OMRI).
Antonio was recognised for his work as a journalist and for spearheading a range of media freedom initiatives at the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
In his acceptance speech, Antonio highlighted the vital importance of safeguarding and strengthening press freedoms around the world:
“Fair, accurate and independent journalism is a cornerstone of our democracies. When free media is stifled, societies can be riddled with corruption, abuse of power, and discrimination towards minorities. Impartial journalism provides critical information that empowers individuals. And that is why this [award] means so much to me.”

Showcasing TRFilter at the World News Media Congress
This week, we’re exhibiting TRFilter - our online harassment manager for journalists - at the World News Media Congress in Zaragoza, Spain. TRFilter is a free tool that allows users to document and manage online harassment and abuse, so they can take control of their social media feeds and focus on their professional activities. Inclusive Economies:
Building back more equitably in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic
Through TrustLaw, our pro bono legal service, the ONE Campaign was connected to five law firms from across four continents who conducted legal research to bolster the NGOs advocacy efforts. This contributed to wealthy countries pledging nearly $77 billion in International Monetary Fund assets toward low-income and developing countries' recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic aftershocks. Human Rights:
‘Reporting on Food Security and Rural Development’ training delivered for journalists in East Africa
Against the backdrop of rising prices, the economic fallout of COVID-19 and global supply problems, we partnered with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to deliver an online 'Reporting on Food Security and Rural Development’ training for journalists based in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. Following her completion of the programme, Arinaitwe Hedwig - a freelance journalist from Uganda - reflected on her experience and learnings. Read the blog [[link removed]].

Opportunities:
Legal Manager, Media Freedom, TrustLaw. [[link removed]] Based in London, the Legal Manager will provide dedicated project leadership to conceptualise, develop and implement a new legal offering to support journalists and independent newsrooms, working closely with the TrustLaw and Media Freedom teams.
Legal Officer, TrustLaw [[link removed]]. Based in London, the Legal Officer will support the implementation of our new legal programme on sexual and reproductive rights, supporting NGOs and legal teams to drive systemic change.
Programme Officer, North America and the Caribbean, TrustLaw. [[link removed]] Based in New York, the Programme Officer will support, engage, and devise strategies to expand a community of NGO and social enterprise members across the region, working closely with the regional Legal Programme Manager and Legal Officer.
