John - Doug Jones here. I just got back from a weekend campaigning with Cheri Beasley in North Carolina, and let me tell you, the momentum here is real.
There’s a real energy and enthusiasm on the ground for Cheri — especially in the communities that Democrats have had a tougher time winning.
That’s a testament to Cheri’s ability to talk to everyone, including rural and independent voters who can swing North Carolina. She just knows how to connect with people, listen to them, and when she says she’ll be a voice for them in the Senate, she means it.
She’s running a phenomenal campaign where no one is left behind or forgotten, but the kind of organizing and turnout operation that it takes to win isn’t cheap. We’ve gotta help her out.
Some pundits have tried to count North Carolina out, and these are the same folks who said I could never win.
Sure, Democrats winning in the South is never a given, but we’ve proven that we can do it by investing in good candidates running grassroots campaigns. Heck, Cheri’s proven twice before that she can win statewide — even in tough midterms like 2014.
And just like in my race, she’s up against an extremist Republican who wants to end access to aborion, restrict voting rights, and overturn democracy — like Ted Budd tried to do on January 6.
The key here is that WE have to invest. Nobody can win a race like this alone.
