Dear AFSA Member,
We are very pleased to announce that our AFSA family is expanding! Since the AFSA Convention this past July, the AFSA General Executive Board granted charters to four groups who requested membership with AFSA. The four groups are:
New Locals:
- The Rochester Administrator’s Association, representing the school administrators of Rochester, Minnesota, led by local President Peter Wruck. This will be AFSA’s first local in the state, paving the way for future organizing in Minnesota.
- The Meriden Administrator’s Association, representing the school administrators of Meriden, Connecticut, led by local President Lysette Torres. This will be an additional AFSA local in the state of Connecticut, which also agreed to join the Connecticut Federation of School Administrators (CFSA).
Uniting Locals Regionally:
- The Maryland Federation of School Administrators, representing the school administrators of the entire state of Maryland, led by AFSA’s Affiliate Liaison, Doris Reed. This state federation will work on addressing statewide labor issues in Maryland, and focus on internal and external organizing throughout the state.
- The Midwest Federation of School Administrators, representing school administrators from Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri, led by the President of the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association, Troy LaRaviere. This will be the first AFSA multi-state regional federation. This federation will advocate for the existing AFSA locals in the aforementioned three states, and focus on internal and external organizing in the future. The federation will also address regional specific issues.
We believe it goes without saying, that school leaders across the nation continue to see the need to come together and have a real voice at the table. And that interest is obviously growing. It fills me with great joy to see our strength as a union continue to expand. Please join us in welcoming these new groups to our AFSA family.
Thank you for all that you do everyday to support public education and the students we serve.
