John,
How we measure impact matters – especially for communities that are
overburdened and underserved.
[ [link removed] ]Join us in urging the White House Council of Environmental Quality to
include climate, environmental health, and economic benefits in its annual
Environmental Justice Scorecard. The scorecard breaks down how the federal
government is addressing environmental injustices, but the way they are
grading themselves doesn’t tell us the full picture.
Last January, the White House announced its commitment to accelerate
environmental justice and economic opportunity for disadvantaged
communities through the Justice40 initiative, and since then the
administration has worked to ensure at least 40 percent of the overall
federal climate benefits are delivered to impacted communities. But how
will these efforts to address the decades of environmental injustices be
graded?
To ensure the Justice40 initiative is successful, we need a strong and
effective scorecard that measures exactly how climate investments provide
environmental and economic benefits for impacted communities. We also need
to ensure proper tracking of Justice40 implementation so federal agencies
are held accountable as well.
Last March, you helped drive thousands of comments into the White House to
ensure that climate benefits be directed to the communities that needed
them most. Now, we need your help to ensure that this scorecard isn’t
created by a privileged few.

Quality to improve the Environmental Justice Scorecard.
