The hearings held by the January 6 committee have been a powerful and sobering reminder of how close our democracy came to the brink — and how the forces that conspired to overturn an election haven't stopped.

But the GOP refuses to distance itself from dangerous extremism. In fact, they've embraced it even more since January 6.

Let's not forget that in February, the Republican National Committee voted to censure those in the party who have supported the January 6 investigation — and it called the events of that day "legitimate political discourse."

The Republican Party as it stands today cannot be entrusted with a majority. They have shown that they will support any and all shredding of our democratic principles, so long as it gains them political power.

They'll support voter suppression. They'll spread conspiracy theories about the integrity of our elections. They'll refuse to condemn a violent attack on our government, and actively work to purge those in their party who do have the courage to investigate and denounce schemes to overturn the will of the American people.

Every race in 2022 is a battle to defend our democracy against the GOP's extremism, and that's especially true in VA-10. I'm facing a pro-Trump challenger who's pushed election conspiracy theories.
