Dear March for Moms supporter,

This has been an exciting year filled with many accomplishments. Together we’ve convened a community of passionate advocates - - individuals and organizations - - and raised awareness for the need for dignity and respect for every mother and growing family in this country.

Through YOUR advocacy, we’ve effectively harnessed the power of partners like YOU to amplify the voices of mothers and families. YOUR work has informed the development of critical policies at the state and federal levels that will bring about real and necessary change to maternal health and well-being.

This fall, March for Moms board members Ebony Marcelle, Gene Declerq and Charles Johnson were invited to present to members of Congress on black maternal health. And we proudly joined with partners to advocate for two bi-partisan bills [[link removed]] that were quickly introduced and passed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the Helping MOMS Act and the Maternal Health Quality Improvement Act. The first piece of legislation gives states the option to continue Medicaid coverage to pregnant women up to one-year postpartum and the second funds important maternal health grants focused on innovation and data collection in rural communities across the country. We will continue to push for these critical pieces of legislation in 2020!

March for Moms Board Chair Ginger Breedlove and Vice-Chair Neel Shah also presented to many national clinical audiences about the need for inter-professional teamwork, better communication and professional humility in maternal health. Though only a few examples, March for Moms continues to engage in work that paves the way for better health and well-being through dignity and respect in maternal care.

As we head into 2020, we’re gearing up for our annual rally [[link removed]] on the National Mall in Washington DC, scheduled for May 3, and our annual Advocacy Day [[link removed]] on Capitol Hill scheduled for May 4. Our continued advocacy and presence in Washington, DC will be more important than ever to moving the existing maternal health bills through Congress. Please save the dates and join us! We’re excited that many of our partners - - and some new organizations - - will be with us.

This has been a tremendous first year! Thank YOU for YOUR support, YOUR tireless passion and participation in our work. I’m looking forward to continuing OUR work together in the new year.

All the best for a healthy and happy holiday season.

With gratitude,

Katie
