When we think of the Maine we want our children and grandchildren to inherit, we imagine a Maine with clean air and water, beautiful lands for all to enjoy, and a green economy that provides good-paying jobs and protects our planet from climate change.
And in the last few years, our state has made incredible strides — reversing nearly a decade of anti-conservation leadership — to make that vision of Maine a reality.
Yet, all of our progress could get put on hold in November. Anti-environmental candidates who support keeping Maine dependent on dirty fossil fuels and who have voted against protecting family farms from forever chemicals have a real shot at winning and turning back the clock on all we've fought so hard for.
That's why we need your help right now. We've launched a critical campaign to help re-elect Gov. Janet Mills and pro-conservation champions up and down the ballot. Our new digital advertisement is running statewide, and we're urgently working to identify and turn out conservation voters across the state.
This upcoming election will be a choice between the failed policies of former Gov. Paul LePage, who kept the state dependent on oil and gas and completely turned his back on climate science and the potential of clean technology as an economic engine for our state.
Or the forward-looking approach of Gov. Mills and conservation champions in the State House who are addressing climate change head-on, accelerating the state’s transition to 100% clean renewable energy while reducing the state’s dependence on oil, and protecting Maine’s waters, wildlife, and way of life for future generations.
We only have about five weeks to go — and winning this November won't be easy. Millions in special interest outside money is pouring into Maine to elect Paul LePage and an anti-environment legislature to roll back our progress.
