organizations, has been ambitious. They have restored Mr. Madison <[link removed]>’s mansion to tear down our history. The American story is not one based on slavery and oppression but a chronicle of striving toward freedom against the odds dictated by the history of humanity, of the contributions of generations that moved us toward a fuller realization of our principles. School Choice Opponents Concede Defeat Just Days After Declaring Victory <[link removed]> – On Friday, opponents of education choice in Arizona declared a “historic victory <[link removed]>.” But by Monday, they were conceding defeat <[link removed]>. They had sought to gather enough signatures to block Arizona’s newly passed massive expansion <[link removed]> of education
choice and put it on the ballot for voters to decide. But apparently, the voters weren’t interested in what opponents were selling. “I think we will end up short, yes,” said Beth Lewis, the executive director of the anti-school choice group Save Our Schools Arizona. Their defeat is a testament to the power of parents who mobilized to defend the education choice policy. Earlier this summer, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, signed a bill sponsored by Arizona House Republican Majority Leader Ben Toma to expand eligibility for the state’s Empowerment Scholarship Account <[link removed]> policy to all 1.1 million of the state’s K-12
students. Arizona’s ESA policy is now the gold standard of education choice <[link removed]>. Arizona ranks first in the nation <[link removed]> for education choice in The Heritage Foundation’s inaugural Education Freedom Report Card <[link removed]> and second for education freedom overall

Russia’s Attack on Nord Stream Pipelines Means Putin Has Truly Weaponized Energy <[link removed]> – A final facet of the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage is Russia’s twisting of its actions to serve diplomatic ends. You can view recent Russian statements <[link removed]> over the leaks—“an unprecedented situation requiring urgent investigation” and “we are extremely concerned about this news”—as foreshadowing. Soon there may be an attempt to shift blame on to the West (Russia will obviously deny involvement) with talking points about an affront to the rule of law—and demands for financial restitution. Despite some fits and starts, the effort of Europe to move away from Russian energy, and its overall success in filling its gas storage in advance of the oncoming winter has surely rattled the Kremlin. This week’s sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines has many meanings, all with the intention of rattling Europe. 6 Important Issues at Stake in Appropriations Bills <[link removed]> –
Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will push for a big spending package in the lame-duck period after the election. That would lock in a third year <[link removed]> of a
liberal policy and inflationary spending agenda, rammed through by unaccountable members of Congress, many of whom will have been voted out of office. Lawmakers should not rush through a massive omnibus appropriations bill that spends too much on all the wrong things, especially in a lame-duck Congress. Instead, the new majorities in the next Congress should take the pen and enact responsible spending bills that advance the policy priorities of the American people. FBI, Justice Department Twist Federal Law to Arrest, Charge Pro-Life Activist <[link removed]> – Perhaps the more important number is 91. That’s how many days elapsed between the day the Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs and Houck’s indictment. Or maybe it’s 49—the number of days between Houck’s indictment and the mid-term elections. And why did the Justice Department decide to send armed FBI agents to Houck’s house in a show of force? Houck has no criminal record, is a man of faith, and is the father of seven children. He is no threat whatsoever. Contrast this prosecution with the fact that vandals physically have attacked <[link removed]> and damaged roughly 70 pro-life
pregnancy centers, which also are protected under the FACE Act’s definition of a facility that “provides reproductive health services.” So why hasn’t the Justice Department filed a single FACE Act indictment against anyone for those crimes? Clearly, the leadership of the FBI and the Justice Department should be asked these and other important questions surrounding this
