High school students are learning about how peaceful and successful socialism can be, but most of these students and teachers don't know what living under socialism is like. 
 

The Dissident Project provides high school students with first-hand accounts of life under the horrors of socialism.
 

Our speakers travel to high schools across the U.S. and speak to students about authoritarian socialism. These speakers draw on their own experiences of living under autocratic rule in their home countries.

We provide these opportunities at no cost to the schools, but I need your help to make this happen. I’ve set a goal to raise $20,000 this month to support our speakers.

They’ll hear from speakers like:
 

• Grace Jo from North Korea
  
  Grace was born in North Korea, a place where she almost starved to death as a child. Her father was jailed, tortured, and starved to death for leaving the country to find food for the family. Two of Grace’s brothers died of starvation. One of Grace’s older sisters went to China to find food for her family but went missing and was probably sold into human trafficking.
  
  It took many tries before she, her mother, and her sister finally managed to escape North Korea and move to America.
   
• Daniel Di Martino from Venezuela.
  
  Daniel’s grandfather was a shoemaker who started a business that took his family from poverty. Then socialism came to Venezuela, and Daniel’s family lost almost everything. Hyperinflation made the money worthless. Stores emptied, and families starved. 
  
  After leaving Venezuela, he founded the Dissident Project to explain how socialism destroyed his homeland and to stop this ideology from ever being implemented in America.
   
• Frances Hui from Hong Kong.
  
  Frances is a former journalist and director of We The Hongkongers and a political activist. But then the Chinese Communist Party imposed a national security law that cracked down on political activism in Hong Kong, and Frances became the first Hong Kong activist to receive political asylum in the US.
  
  Her opinion piece titled “I am from Hong Kong, not China” brought national attention to her plight.
