Dear John,
Labor Day weekend was a busy one for me and my campaign in Virginia’s First Congressional District. My campaign manager Lucy and I spent Friday night at the Chesterfield County Fair. I spoke to many voters who want to continue the tradition of excellent representation they’ve become accustomed to and who understand that they will lose representation if my opponent is re-elected. I spent that night being trailed by a camera crew from The Economist while I worked to let voters know that not only would they lose their excellent representation, they would lose their rights, freedoms, and our democracy if my opponent were to be re-elected and we lose our Democratic majority.
Recently that piece from The Economist was released. You can watch it here or by scrolling to the bottom of this email. You’ll see me featured at the beginning (around minute 1:24) and then again towards the end (at minute 24:32).
Our country has a great history but we’re not perfect. The Promise of the United States of America is that we’re able to adapt, change, and get better over time. I served my country for 30 years in the U.S. Army to fulfill the legacy of that Promise. That Promise was what kept my parents going and is what keeps me going.
Too many of our elected leaders want to turn back the clock while giving up on that Promise. My opponent is one of them. An opinion piece came out just today in The Washington Post, reaffirming what we already knew about him. We can’t let him succeed in taking our democracy and future from us.
One way you can help us win is by getting me and my message on video and TV like you saw in The Economist video. It’s especially important that we get on TV in the last weeks of the campaign. Can you help us do that by donating today?
