We know we’ve asked a lot of you in the lead up to Friday’s FEC fundraising deadline, and we’ll be upfront: we’re reaching out right now to ask you to donate $3 again. BUT before we ask, you deserve to know exactly why your contribution is so important to our success and how it makes a difference.

So first up, why does an official deadline matter? Shortly after we close the books at midnight on Friday, we are required to file a report with the Federal Election Commission (FEC for short) that shows how much money we’ve raised and from whom — down to the penny.

When our report goes public, the media and our opponents will be taking a very close look. Their goal is to size up our campaign and see if we have what it takes to win. And if we show any signs of vulnerability, Republicans’ corporate super PACs could quickly dump in millions of dollars worth of dark money to try to quickly drown us out.

So how do we report the strongest number possible? That’s where these emails and your donation come in. The number one source of donations for our campaign is from messages just like this one, and those donations come from people like you pitching in whatever they can afford. No amount is too small.

With so many eyes on the numbers our campaign will have to publicly report, it’s critical that we hit our goal. So we need to ask you to make sure Cheri does not fall short:

This is our final quarterly FEC deadline before Election Day. What we raise now will determine the budget and resources we have available to fight back against the dark money flooding our state daily.

It’s also going to set the tone for the final weeks of this campaign. Whether our numbers are good or bad, we’ll have to report them. The strength of our number is up to each of us and what we’re willing to do to flip North Carolina and expand our majority.
