Did you get married to do laundry? To pay bills? To cook dinner or wash the dishes?
No one does. And yet, many couples wind up with a marriage that becomes “ho-hum” and business-like. At some point after the joy of the wedding ceremony, life settles into a daily grind of routine activity. Careers are chased, children are born, a larger home is purchased with two new cars in the garage.
And, slowly, the romance fades.
What used to be hours on the phone together and regular date nights becomes two people who only talk about practical matters, like finances or the kids’ grades. Eventually, the emotional connection points that used to draw the couple together disappear entirely.
And then one day, the couple realizes they no longer have an intimate relationship, but something closer to a business arrangement. Even worse, their daily energy becomes so devoted to the mundane responsibilities of life, the couple has nothing left to offer each other.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Spouses can pep up their marriage and rekindle the romance their relationship once had.
Kathi Lipp is our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Fun Ways to Pep Up Your Marriage.” She shares how couples can prevent the busyness of life from distracting them from what’s truly important: connecting on an emotional level with each other and developing a genuinely intimate relationship.
Obviously, when life is hectic, that takes some effort. In fact, it’ll probably take a lot of the same dedication that drew you together in the first place. But you can reconnect and refresh your marriage.
