Interning at OCA National as a programs intern over the summer was the best decision I have made in my undergraduate career. Not only did I gain valuable professional experience and knowledge about AAPI issues through OCA’s summer Sama Sama class, but I also made life-long friends in the process. OCA gave me the space I needed to explore my identity while surrounded by a constant support system. The summer was a mix of networking, rallies, exploring the nation’s capital, and a whole lot of great Asian food with the cohort!

My time as an OCA Intern in the summer of 2001 allowed me to connect local issues impacting AAPIs on a national scale. I was immersed in the DC lifestyle, attending meetings at the Capitol, researching and analyzing policy briefs, and growing a national network of student advocates. My community development experience and understanding of advocacy and activism stemmed from my time with OCA and I have been able to continue my involvement as a leader with OCA-San Francisco Chapter.
