** Don't be fooled. The "permitting reform" bill was nothing more than a big wet kiss for Big Wind. And Manchin will now go down in history as the worst West Virginia Senator in modern history.

Hot Air ([link removed]) (9/28/22) article: "The Senate voted Tuesday on the motion to end the debate on proceeding to a continuing resolution to avoid a partial government shutdown. The vote was 72-23. In order to get to the vote, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WVA) agreed to pull his permitting reform bill that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer attached as a rider to the continuing resolution. As predicted, Schumer will get his vote on a continuing resolution to keep the government from going into a partial shutdown at the end of the week. Republican senators sided with progressive Democrats to deny Manchin his permitting reform bill and Manchin simply didn’t have the votes to pass his bill. I started my post on Manchin’s predicament yesterday by saying he was about to hit a brick wall. That is exactly what happened. The question is why did he ever trust his fellow Democrats in the first place? Manchin
began to believe his own publicity as a dealmaker. He and Senator Sinema have become known as two Democrats in the Senate who often refuse to go along with Joe Biden’s progressive agenda. They hold out on committing to vote for big spending and new taxes until they receive concessions. With an evenly divided Senate, Manchin, in particular, has embraced his new-found power to be a dealmaker. That all came to an end, though, when he voted yes on the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). He held out until the last minute when he received assurances from Schumer that his permitting reform bill would get a vote by the end of September and West Virginia would get a pipeline."

Glad to see the White House is recruiting the best experts in their fields to advise them on energy policy.

(9/27/22) reports: "Longtime weatherman and television personality Al Roker revealed Tuesday that he is speaking at a White House climate change event with the hope of influencing the Biden administration’s approach to climate policy. Roker told NBC’s 'Today' that he is currently in Washington, D.C., to speak to the White House’s sustainability and climate change units about the importance of climate policy. Roker said that while the Biden team knows climate change is important, it’s also important for policymakers to get the perspective of people like himself who report on the issue. Notably, Roker is a weatherman, not a meteorologist. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the State University of New York at Oswego, which he attained in 1976, and no post-graduate degrees. He first became a weather presenter for a local CBS affiliate in 1974 and was hired by NBC’s national flagship in 1983. The trip won’t be Roker’s first to the White House. In 2013, Roker revealed that he had
previously pooped his pants during a trip to the White House in 2002 after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. 'I think it’s important for everybody to keep having a conversation, a dialogue about what’s happening,' Roker said Tuesday. 'These are policymakers, but folks like us have to report on it to folks that are viewers, so it’s a great thing to have a dialogue so that we all know what each one is thinking about, so that we can go forward and hopefully help mitigate what we’re seeing with this climate crisis.'"

(9/28/22) reports: "German Environment Minister Steffi Lemke ruled out extending the lifespans of two nuclear plants beyond the coming winter after the government said it was planning for them to stay operational for three months longer than previously planned. Germany had intended to complete a phase-out of nuclear power by the end of this year but a collapse in energy supplies from Russia because of the war in Ukraine has prompted the government to keep two plants on standby until April. 'I rule out extending the running time beyond the coming winter and the necessary purchase of new fuel elements,' said Lemke, a member of the Greens party, in a statement on Wednesday."
