Before I get to the point and ask you to make a contribution before our September 30th fundraising deadline -- the last quarterly deadline of this election cycle -- let me tell you why it matters so much.

Just last week, we passed a package of four bills to enhance public safety and make all of our communities safer -- including by providing new funding to police departments for training, equipment, and the retention of qualified officers, as well as investing in violence intervention efforts and mental health-focused first responder teams.

This comes on the heels of the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act -- simultaneously the most meaningful legislation to lower costs and reduce the deficit of this Congress and the largest investment in combating climate change ever made.

Before that, we passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first real legislation to combat gun violence in nearly three decades. And late last year, we passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, an historic investment in our nation's roads and highways, broadband, and water infrastructure.

All of this was possible because in 2020 we held Minnesota's Third District -- and others like it around the country -- and kept our majority in the U.S. House. Now that majority is being threatened by extreme anti-democratic forces around the country.

We are up against our last major quarterly deadline of this election cycle, and your contribution today will help build a firewall against efforts to undo all the progress we've made together.

That's why this matters.

Whether it's climate action, abortion rights, gun violence prevention, public safety, or the rising costs of healthcare and childcare, there's much more work to be done in the next Congress to ensure a brighter future for all Minnesotans. Those will be my priorities and the priorities of a Democratic majority in the U.S. House -- but first we need to win in November.
