Fellow Conservative,
With government funding about to run out on Oct. 1, Congress is poised to pass a short-term continuing resolution (CR) that will extend the current level of government spending until December 16. If passed, this CR will expire just after the midterm elections but before the newly elected Congress takes their seats.
This period of time is called a “lame-duck” Congress. It’s after the election but before the new Congress is sworn in. And historically, lame duck spending bills are a bad deal. That’s why the new December 16 deadline is so troubling.
Conservatives should reject lame-duck legislating, and should push for the new Congress in 2023 to set the spending and policy agenda for the year ahead.
