Climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent, destructive, and expensive to recover from for the communities who face them.
Friend,
As I’m writing you this message, Hurricane Ian is barreling up the Gulf Coast and Floridians are bracing for impact.
Just last week, a different storm, Hurricane Fiona, knocked out power across the entire island of Puerto Rico and caused at least 3 deaths. Hundreds of thousands are still without power today.
And hurricane season isn’t over yet.
These climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent, destructive, and expensive to recover from for the communities who face them. This level of devastation is unacceptable and unsustainable and a prime example of why Americans need a Green New Deal. Inaction on the climate crisis is fiscally and morally irresponsible when we are seeing the effects firsthand in our own neighborhoods.
Please join me in making a contribution to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, so we may help those affected in Puerto Rico, Florida, and the communities who may need support in the weeks to come.
I believe in Americans' ability to support each other through difficult times. But now, Congress must pass a Green New Deal so we can give our communities the resources they need to be prepared in the face of the climate crisis.
In solidarity,
Ro
