Following politics these days elicits many emotions. Anger, exhaustion, and hopelessness are traps that are all too easy to fall into.

I want to validate those feelings. We have a racist, authoritarian president who has no qualms about asking foreign powers to investigate his political opponents. Climate change threatens the very planet we live on. States across the country -- with the blessings of this administration -- seek to end reproductive freedom on a daily basis. It's okay to be upset.

But I'm asking you to never give up hope. Every great social movement in American history was the product of years of hard work, relentless organizing, and a persistent belief that the future can always be greater than our present.

In the past decade, marriage equality has gone from an impossible dream to a nationwide reality. Years of mass incarceration have slowly receded, with our nation's prison population actually dropping. Production of renewable energy has doubled.

We have a long way to go, and change won't arrive overnight. But even in what seems like a troubling present, there's always good news if you dig a little deeper.

And together, we can ensure there are many brighter days ahead. That starts with protecting and expanding our House majority in 2020.
