Dear John,
He was homeless, hiding and being
hunted by the king, but in this moment of severe trial David didn’t write a
lament or a song of despair. He wrote Psalm 63,
with verses that demonstrate clearly that his faith transcended his sight
and his hope transcended his circumstances. David turned physical longing
into a focus on God’s presence. He remembered God’s goodness and believed he’d
see it again. And he looked ahead to a future vindication in which God’s
promises would be fulfilled and all people would worship the one true God.
That’s where we need to be right now
too. Sure, there’s been a lot of bad news lately. A court in California has
done all it can to protect Planned Parenthood and punish those who shed light on their
practice of selling aborted baby body parts. A beloved fast-food restaurant caved to LGBTQ and left-wing pressure. Conservatives have suffered a series of
disappointing losses in recent elections across the country too.
But we are undeterred. Our faith is
unshaken and our trust is unwavering. We’re not giving up or giving in,
throwing in the towel or wallowing in despair. We keep going, in faith,
believing that God will come through for us (Romans 8:31), that evil will be overcome (1 John 5:4-5), that
darkness will yield to the light (John 1:5).
We believe we are part of His plan for accomplishing His purposes, and invite
you to join us in seeing them come to fruition.
