John,

The tide is turning our way in the home stretch of this midterm election cycle, and there’s no better proof than deep-red Alaska.

This month, in a widely watched special election to replace the late Rep. Don Young, Alaska voters defied political pundits and made history by electing a pro-choice Yup’ik Eskimo woman - Democrat Mary Peltola - to represent them in Congress. Rep. Peltola was sworn into office last week, and will stand for re-election in just seven weeks.

This huge victory for Democrats confirms what we’ve seen in Kansas, upstate New York and elsewhere: we’re picking up steam ahead of the November election.

This is a great outcome for Alaska. Instead of MAGA extremist Sarah Palin, who finished second, Alaskans have a thoughtful, dedicated champion for jobs, reproductive rights, sustainable fishing, and working families representing them in Congress.

I’m excited to welcome Mary to Congress and particularly to the House Natural Resources Committee, where I’m already working closely with her as a co-sponsor of my Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA) reauthorization bill. This important legislation will strengthen and modernize federal law for sustainable fisheries management. Mary’s experience on these issues and her perspective representing native Alaskan fishing communities brings important insight to our shared work.

But John, as thrilled as we are to have Mary Peltola in Congress, we must immediately get to work defending her. In just six weeks, she faces former Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin once again. The MAGA Republican movement is throwing millions of dollars into this race. Mary shocked the political establishment and beat them earlier this month. Now we must make sure she has the resources to do it again and win a full term in Congress.

Will you make a split contribution to help Mary hold onto Alaska’s House seat?

Thanks for all you do.

Jared
