Last week we helped to organise dozens of actions across the UK for Loss and Damage Action Day. Help us build on this momentum by contacting your MP today.

Despite everything else going on, last week was certainly a momentous week for loss and damage.

Hundreds of you took part in our day of action, calling on the UK government to support loss and damage at the COP27 climate summit and to make polluters pay for it.

And we also saw an international breakthrough, with Denmark becoming the first UN member state to commit money (approx. £12 million) to financing loss and damage.

We need to build on this momentum in the run up to COP27. Will you write to your MP now and ask them to publicly support a loss and damage fund?

** Round up: Loss and Damage Action Day
------------------------------------------------------------
Global Justice Now groups and fellow activists organised actions around the country in the campaign to demand climate compensation for countries in the global south.

In Bexhill and London there were walks of witness, London starting in Waterloo and stopping for a silent vigil at the Shell HQ before heading to Parliament Square for speeches.

In Cambridge, one member wrote a song explaining loss and damage that was performed by activists. In Nottingham, our group members made their way to the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station to demonstrate with local allies. In Edinburgh we protested outside Queen Elizabeth House, the UK government building in the city, with some fantastic street theatre.

Many groups focussed on informing and educating members of the public on the issue, handing out leaflets, getting petitions signed and organising information stalls.

Thank you to everyone who organised and joined actions, wherever you were. This day of action shows a big step forward from last year and puts us in a good position to keep increasing the pressure on the UK government in the run up to COP27.

The remaining six weeks until the UN climate talks at COP27 in Egypt are now very important.

Strong hurricanes in the Caribbean in the past fortnight are demonstrating again why loss and damage finance is needed. Yet Denmark’s announcement shows that rich countries can be persuaded to commit funds; they can act as an example for others to follow.

It’s now imperative that we build support for loss and damage in parliament, and send a message to the prime minister that the UK must stop blocking and start supporting loss and damage at COP27.

Will you use our online form to write to your MP today? You can ask them to sign an Early Day Motion in parliament, and to write to the prime minister, to demonstrate support for loss and damage.
