In the 117th Congress, Congressional Democrats have enacted a number of laws and policies—including the American Rescue Plan, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS and Science Act and student loan relief—that will lower costs for residents in TX-28, support businesses and promote economic growth.
As of August 2022, 25,900 jobs have been created in TX-28 since January 2021 and 1,133,200 jobs have been created statewide.

I joined a Fox News Border Special to discuss how we must work together as national, state, and local officials to secure our southern border. My Rio Grande City Outreach Coordinator, Roberto Bazan, attended El Sauz’s Cactus Country Festival and Cook off. This event included live music, a silent auction, live music by Ricky Guzman and the All Stars, and a cook off with prizes for pan de campo, fajita, chili, chicken wings, and ribs.

My Laredo Outreach Coordinator, Marco Salazar, attended the League of Latin American Citizens’ Scholarship Dance at the Casa Blanca Event Center. The event featured two legendary Tejano musicians, Roberto Pulido and David Marez, and worked to raise money for local students.

My San Antonio Outreach Coordinator, Arturo Olivarez attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for House of BJJ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Converse. House of BJJ will provide quality combat sports training for fun and health.

My Laredo Outreach Coordinator, Melissa Peña, attended Pathways for Trade: The North American Logistics & Manufacturing Symposium. This event brought trade leaders together to discuss how we can make South Texas even more prosperous.

My District Press Secretary, Jose Sanz, attended the kickoff of the Laredo Commission for Women’s “Yes I Will Vote” campaign. This campaign is supported by local school districts, colleges, government, media, and the private sector to spread awareness of the importance of making your voice heard in our democracy. I’ve been a strong advocate of voting rights legislation in the House, including the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

My daughter, Catherine, and Melissa attended the Laredo session of the Governor’s Small Business Series with Laredo College President, Dr. Minita Ramirez. This event helped small business owners and entrepreneurs connect and learn from leaders of the South Texas business community.

Marco attended the unveiling of the Panther Avenue sign. This sign honors the United South Panthers for their successes in academics, athletics, and service to the community.

Roberto joined Starr County farmers and ranchers for the Starr County Farm Bureau Annual Convention. As a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, I am dedicated to getting South Texas’ agricultural families what they need to be successful.

Melissa attended the kick off of the Junior Achievement bowling fundraiser. Junior Achievement South Texas aims to help develop children into informed and active parts of their community.

Melissa presented Congressional Certificates of Recognition to Leticia Espinosa and Lizette Torres on their retirement from Webb County government. Ms. Torres served our community for 25 years and Ms. Espinosa served for 20.

Roberto attended the Level 1 Trauma Center Designation One Year Anniversary and dedication of the Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox Trauma Unit at DHR Health in Edinburg. This unit will serve Hidalgo County and Rio Grande Valley families to receive care during serious medical incidents.
