Food Emissions 50 Company Benchmark: Progress in Disclosing Emissions and Setting Targets
October 13, 2022, 11am ET
Online
Join us for an update on Food Emissions 50, an investor-led initiative to accelerate progress toward a 1.5-degree future in the food and agriculture sector. Over a year into the initiative, the number of companies with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets covering scope 3 emissions have doubled, and over half of the Food Emissions 50 focus companies now have set or committed to set targets validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). As more companies publicly commit to reducing their emissions, investors are looking for evidence of concrete plans to achieve these goals, and that food companies are appropriately accounting for land-based emissions from agriculture
and land use change as a part of their plans. Attendees will discover which companies are acting on climate, and how companies can improve their disclosures, targets, and action plans. |
Beyond Rhetoric: The Case for Responsible Policy Engagement
October 26, 2022, 11am ET
Online
The impacts of climate change not only pose financial and material risks to companies and industries, but also systemic risk to financial markets writ large. Given the nature of this risk, all corporate action—including corporate lobbying—should be proportional to the risk faced and aligned with the latest science on climate change. Yet Ceres’ 2021 assessment of 96 large U.S.-based companies reveals that many companies are misaligned with their climate lobbying The “Practicing Responsible Policy Engagement” assessment found that only 40% of the assessed companies have engaged directly with lawmakers on the importance of specific science-based climate policies,
and only a handful are assessing and acting on misalignments found within their trade associations. This session will preview the upcoming report, highlight the importance of corporate climate lobbying, and walk through how investors are boosting engagements to encourage companies to better manage this risk. |
Derivatives and Bank Climate Risk Report
November 4, 2022, 11am ET
Online
U.S. banks have made strong progress in understanding the climate risk and impact of their lending activity, but huge parts of banks’ businesses are still a black box in terms of climate. This webinar will discuss Ceres’ recent report “Derivatives and Bank Climate Risk” and make the case that derivatives should be (at least) as important for banks to address as investment banking. Given that the derivatives market is $600 trillion in size, accounts for more than 10% of the revenue of the largest banks, and it is highly interconnected to the rest of the financial system, it is a proverbial “elephant in the room” when it comes to banks’ climate
strategies. If we want to decarbonize at the speed required by science, derivatives must be part of the solution and not a roadblock to bank climate action. |
