Reuters: More than 2.5 million Floridians were under evacuation orders or warnings with the sprawling storm on track to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on Wednesday evening somewhere along the Gulf Coast. A Category 3 storm carries maximum sustained winds of up to 129 miles per hour (208 km per hour). The latest hurricane advisory put Ian’s top winds near 120 mph ( Reuters). Daily Wire: During a press conference on Tuesday morning, Governor Ron DeSantis shared the update that urged Floridians to take necessary precautions as Ian could strike the Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane ( Daily Wire). Brandon Orr: Water is already over the sea wall in Key West. Storm surge here will peak at 2-4 feet. Highest wind gusts could range 60-70mph tonight ( Twitter).

Democrats Looking to Turn Hurricane Ian Against Gov. DeSantis
As Rahm Emanuel once said, “You never want a serious crisis go to waste.” Daily Wire: As Hurricane Ian barreled toward Florida, some Democrats and members of the media appeared almost giddy at the prospect of Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) failing a high-profile test. Florida emergency management teams were busy Tuesday warning residents to batten down the hatches and, if necessary, evacuate coastal areas ahead of the storm’s arrival. Meanwhile, Politico appeared to frame the hurricane as a test that would ultimately determine whether or not DeSantis deserved the level notoriety he has already achieved ( Daily Wire). Politico: Gov. Ron DeSantis spent his first term becoming one of the most influential Republicans in the country. But he still hasn’t faced one of the toughest challenges a Florida leader can encounter: a hurricane ( Twitter). Curtis Houck: Notice the media are laying the groundwork to attack DeSantis over #HurricaneIan. Here’s a question to the head of FEMA from a McClatchy reporter: “Can you describe…the level of the communications w/state officials & has there been anything unusual or any challenges w/that” ( Twitter)?

The broader market index fell as low as 3,623.29 during the session which broke below the previous bear market intraday low of 3,636 that was set in mid-June. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 125.82 points, or 0.43%, to 29,134.99. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.25% to 10,829.50. The S&P 500 down 23% for the year, the Nasdaq down a whopping 30% for the year” ( Twitter).

Signature Shortfall Signals Victory for Arizona School-Choice Advocates
National Review: The teachers’ union-backed campaign to overturn school-choice expansion in Arizona appears to have flopped, according to think tank projections relying on preliminary vote tallies. Under the expansion of Arizona’s universal-voucher program, known as the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), enacted in June, over one million K-12 public school students in the state would become eligible to receive vouchers to fund their attendance at private, charter or home schools, up from the 11,000 students who are currently eligible. Anti-school-choice activists submitted 8,175 petition sheets, according to the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office ( National Review). AZ Mirror: The leader of a volunteer group of public school advocates said Monday that the effort to block universal school vouchers and let voters decide the program’s fate in 2024 is likely short of the number of signatures required to refer the new law to the ballot. “I think we will end up short, yes,” said Beth Lewis, the executive director of Save Our Schools Arizona ( AZ Mirror).

Joe Manchin Caves to Bipartisan Pressure to Remove His Reforms From Spending Bill
Vox: Following growing pressure from both groups, Manchin called for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to cut the permitting reforms from a short-term funding bill just before it was scheduled to go up for a vote on Tuesday. Manchin said in a statement he didn’t want to put government funding at risk and added that “a failed vote on something as critical as comprehensive permitting reform only serves to embolden leaders like Putin who wish to see America fail” ( Vox). Just the News: T he Tuesday concession leaves Manchin looking rather foolish after caving on a major policy position in exchange for what has amounted to an empty promise from his party. The West Virginia Democrat announced in late July that he had struck a deal with Schumer in which he would trade his vote on the $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act for a separate deal streamlining the approval process for energy infrastructure projects ( Just the News).

First Lawsuit Filed to Stop Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness: “It’s Flagrantly Illegal”
Washington Post: A lawsuit seeking to block President Biden’s plan to cancel some student debt claims the policy is not only illegal but could inflict harm on borrowers in some states who would be forced to pay taxes on the forgiven amount. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana on Tuesday, is the first significant legal action seeking to invalidate Biden’s policy before it takes effect. The Pacific Legal Foundation, the conservative public interest law firm in California that is backing the lawsuit, asserts that the executive branch lacks the authority to create a new forgiveness policy and is usurping Congress’s power to make law. The suit was filed on behalf of Frank Garrison, an attorney who works for the foundation and lives in Indiana ( Washington Post). Fox News: Garrison and his attorneys are arguing that the Biden administration turning to the HEROES Act, which allows the government to modify loans to assist veterans and their families as needed during times of war or other national emergencies, is a “flimsy pretext for a major policy chance that Congress has declined to enact” ( Fox News).

Nord Stream Pipelines Leak, Sabotage Suspected
Wall Street Journal: European authorities are investigating mysterious leaks on two currently closed Russian natural-gas pipelines to Germany, sparking concerns about the safety of critical energy infrastructure. The leaks were detected after pressure in the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, which connect Russia’s prolific gas fields to Germany’s industrial heartland, dropped suddenly on Monday. On Tuesday, the Swedish Maritime Administration said it had detected a total of three leaks in both pipelines in Swedish and Danish waters outside of the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. It is currently unclear what has caused the leaks, authorities said, but the incident raised fears about a possible sabotage operation and prompted questions about the security of Europe’s energy infrastructure ( Wall Street Journal). Reporter Javier Blas: The size of the Nord Stream pipeline gas leak is huge. According to the Danish armed forces, it measures about 1 kilometer in diameter. The smaller circle in the center is approximately 200 meters wide ( Twitter).

California’s Proposition 1 is a Disguised Proposal for Late-Term Abortion
Christian Post: The California Governor and his “huddle from hell” legislature anticipated that Roe v. Wade would be overturned. In a rush to show how much they loved abortion, they quietly crafted the vaguely written Proposition 1, which states, “The state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most intimate decisions, which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and their fundamental right to choose or refuse contraceptives.” Make no doubt, this is the Birth Day Abortion amendment and the most radical legislation attempt in the history of the United States whereby a child can be exterminated up until the moment of birth ( Christian Post).

Biden Looks to End Hunger in US by 2030
Associated Press: The Biden administration is laying out its plan to meet an ambitious goal of ending hunger in the U.S. by 2030, including expanding monthly benefits that help low-income Americans buy food. The administration, in a plan released Tuesday, is also seeking to increase healthy eating and physical activity so that fewer people are afflicted with diabetes, obesity, hypertension and other diet-related diseases. It said it would work to expand Medicaid and Medicare access to obesity counseling and nutrition ( Associated Press). Daily Wire: Price levels between August 2021 and August 2022 rose 8.3%, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with prices for food increasing 11.4% over the same period. The cost of food at home, a category that includes grocery store or supermarket food purchases, rose 0.7% from the previous month. Meanwhile, Biden has signed multiple federal stimulus packages during his tenure, including the $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act and the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, which economists argue have contributed to inflationary pressures and low labor market participation ( Daily Wire).

“Uncle Tom II” Exposes the Lies That Harm Blacks in America
Charlie Kirk talks to Brandon Tatum about Uncle Tom II, which exposes how BLM has perpetuated a victim mindset to the black community and caused them to hate America ( Spotify). Brandon Tatum: So, we noticed that the advent of Marxism and this social ideology pushed us more towards the government and away from God and away from the family. And you could look at the statistical data. You see that there’s less young people being born into married families and more being born out of wedlock than we saw even in the ‘30s. When you look at the government assistance programs and the victimhood that’s been expressed by these fake black leaders, we see more of it now than we’ve ever seen in the history of black people post-slavery ( Daybreak Daily). IMDB gives the film a 9.7/10 ( IMDB). Watch the movie here ( Salem Now).
