John, at this very moment, Real Justice is determining our strategic priorities for 2020.
We have a critical, year-end fundraising deadline in several short days. We’re planning for 2020 to be our most ambitious year yet, but how much funding we raise now will impact those plans in terms of the size and scope of the work we take on for these district attorney races.
Our goal is to raise $24,000 by December 31st. If you’re on board, please pitch in here.
In the races that we won this year, it was because local people were hyper-organized. That’s why in 2020 we’re prioritizing deep organizing on the local level in dozens of counties. We will organize in more counties than ever before, all at once.
In the races that we lost, we were either out-organized or out-spent. Next year, I don’t want us to let that happen. Each of those losses – but especially Tiffany Cabán’s in Queens County near where I live – ripped my heart out.
Listen to me – we’re fighting for change in a system that is costing people their lives.
In 2019, we fought hard. We knocked on doors, made phone calls and texts, sent mailers, held petition deliveries, enlisted volunteers, built websites, designed graphics, crafted speeches and messages and policies…
And this coming year, we have to do even more. In twelve months from now, at the close of 2020, I want us to look back and know that we did everything we could – that what we did together was a great demonstration of our power and potential.
Nearly 2,300 prosecutors and sheriffs are set to be elected around the country in 2020 – which means we’ve got a ton of work to do.
Love and appreciate you all,
Shaun
