Friends – Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and so many others have sounded the alarm: This is the most important election for women’s rights in our lifetimes.
Republicans are just four House seats and a single Senate seat away from advancing a national abortion ban that will affect all 50 states, including states that have passed laws or amended their Constitutions to defend access to reproductive care.
Sen. Mark Kelly (AZ-Sen), Eric Sorensen (IL-17), Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-05), Dr. Yadira Caraveo (CO-08), and Tony Vargas (NE-02) are 5 Democrats running in 5 of the only toss-up races in the country and control of Congress hinges on them winning.
When you make a donation to our 2022 Impact Slate, your donation will be split evenly between them and the money goes directly to their campaigns when they need it most.
Why is it so important to support them right now? Because new polling shows Republicans winning ALL 5 of these races by just 1-2% if the election were held today. That’s why we’re asking if you’ll consider donating as little as $5 so we can win the 5 seats that could decide control of Congress.
Mark Kelly (AZ-Senate) - Captain Mark Kelly is a retired U.S. Navy combat pilot, engineer and NASA astronaut, and Senator for Arizona.
As a Senator, Mark has championed gun safety legislation and has been fearlessly pro-choice and pro-science since day one. His opponent, Blake Masters, is a Trump-endorsed extremist that supports a national ban on abortions, believes that same-sex marriage is
“Pointless,” and wants to privatize social security.
Mark Kelly is considered one of the most vulnerable Democratic Senators in the 2022 election. And if the election were held today, polling shows Republicans would DEFEAT Mark Kelly and flip the Senate to GOP control.
Eric Sorensen (IL-17) – Eric Sorensen is a widely respected meteorologist who has been the go-to weatherman for his area for more than two decades. If elected, Eric would be the first meteorologist in Congress and the second-ever climate expert.
At the beginning of his career, Eric was forced to leave his job after his employer discovered he was gay and therefore in violation of his contract according to them. Since then, Eric has made it a priority in his life to advocate on behalf of and fight for vulnerable and marginalized communities.
And just this month, Republicans launched a disgusting homophobic ad campaign against him arguing that LGBTQ+ individuals are not fit for public office.
Illinois’ 17th Congressional District is an open Democratic-held seat that Donald Trump carried in 2020 and Democrats defended by a razor-thin margin. If we do not defend this seat, Democrats are not expected to defend our House majority.
Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-05) – Jamie McLeod-Skinner has a background in civil engineering, is an emergency response coordinator who led regional wildfire recovery efforts in Oregon, and has a law degree that specializes in natural resource law.
Working and managing teams in refugee resettlement programs and wildlife recovery efforts has given Jamie the first hand experience protecting natural resources and tackling the impacts of the climate crisis. She has managed million dollar aid programs and would be one of the few members of Congress, if elected, who can speak to the on-the-ground impact climate change has on local communities.
This is another open Democratic-held seat that is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans and, like Eric’s race, has been rated as a TOSS-UP that will decide control of Congress.
Dr. Yadira Caraveo (CO-08) – Dr. Yadira Caraveo is a pediatrician, accomplished legislator, and successful community advocate.
Colorado has never elected a Latina to Federal office and Yadira, a local pediatrician and state legislator who has become the go-to expert for public health and healthcare related legislation in local Colorado politics, is trying to change that.
As part of the redistricting process, Colorado lawmakers created a true toss-up district: it’s split evenly 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats and it’s an open seat. With several Democratic incumbents retiring and GOP gerrymandering costing Democrats seats, we have to win highly competitive toss-up districts like Colorado’s 8th if we’re going to hold our historically narrow majority in the House.
Tony Vargas (NE-02) – Tony Vargas is a former science teacher who won “Teacher of the Year” and got his start in politics by running for and winning a seat on the Omaha Public Schools Board before winning a seat in the Nebraska State Senate.
Tony’s now running for Congress in one of the only GOP-held House districts that Joe Biden carried (by a wide margin in 2020!) making this one of the best pickup opportunities for Democrats in the country.
His opponent supports making abortion illegal even in cases of rape and incest which is part of the reason that a brand new poll showed Tony TIED with vulnerable Rep. Don Bacon.
