People power just beat Joe Manchin at his own game.
 

For weeks, Manchin has been working with the American Petroleum Institute and the fossil fuel lobby to ram through a piece of legislation that would remove life-saving protections for front-line communities AND expedite the approval of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. 

He even tried to attach his bill to legislation that Congress needs to pass to keep the government running. The Senate is voting on this bill tonight and Manchin just asked Chuck Schumer to remove his fossil fuel bill from this evening’s vote.

John, this is a huge win for our movement and for frontline communities everywhere. 

Ever since this side deal was announced, communities from Appalachia to the Gulf South have organized tirelessly to stop it. Thank you to the grassroots organizations who made calls, pulled together protests and pressured Congress to stop a piece of legislation that would have fast tracked projects that poison people and cause climate change.

For my entire life, the fossil fuel lobby has used their money to get their way in Congress, and Senators like Joe Manchin have helped them at every turn. But this news is proof that the tide is turning and organizing works.
