It's true that our country is reckoning with many forms of social division right now, including across racial, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, partisan, and geographic lines. But we also face a moment of immense possibility. Decades of research show that people’s social attitudes and behaviors can be transformed through effective contact programs that bring people from different groups together. The American Immigration Council’s new guide—Cultivating Contact: A Guide to Building Bridges and Meaningful Connections Between Groups—harnesses the lessons of that research and describes how to foster a sense of trust and belonging between people from different backgrounds through community-based programs and initiatives.
