"You don't really love America if you hate half the people in it."
That's what Bill Maher had to say in a late night bit about politicians on both sides of the aisle. He claimed that due to Jamaal's criticism of our current system of capitalism, there's no way he could possibly love America and represent our values.
But the truth is, two things can absolutely be true: we can love America and hate the systems that oppressed millions of hardworking people around our nation for centuries.
We criticize our country because we have compassion and care for the people who keep this country running, and we know that we deserve better. That's why it's crucial that we have politicians like Jamaal in Congress to hold our representatives accountable and fight for the progressive democracy we deserve.
Right now, we truly do have a fighting chance in furthering our progressive vision by ensuring that our movement has the tools and resources to keep Jamaal in Congress. But we can't do that without your support, John.
